In case you hadn't noticed, it is Valentine's Day today and whilst some of you may be going out for a schmaltzy dinner a deux, Mr McDonald and myself are staying in with some New Zealand Pinot Noir (a recommendation from
Knackered Mother's wine book), left over pizza and possibly an old black and white film. We are saving our appetites and, indeed our pennies, for a romantic weekend away. With the kids. At
Butlins. In Bognor. Seriously! And we are dead excited. We have thrown away all our preconceptions (Hello, campers!) purely on the strength of the website, which looks amazing. There is a wave pool, a fun fair and a Dick and Dom show, all INCLUDED in the price (although, I have a confession, we are going as guests of Mr Butlins himself. I know, I know. Connected, or what?). The high point of the weekend will be a cooking class with the chef
Brian Turner. It is all about good dishes to cook for a family and meal planning - the kind of good practical advice, that we at Crumbs love. He also has a restaurant at the resort, which looks rather good, and where you can buy Krug champagne for £120. I told you it had changed. It is possible we may move in, never to return. But if we do, I promise you can read all about it here next week. In the meantime, has anyone been? Any tips?
No. And not even a Brian Turner cooking class would persuade me otherwise. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHarsh words RH. Harsh words. I am going with an open mind.
ReplyDeleteGot good reviews in The Guardian or The Telegraph last year. With half-term coming up I'd be delighted. Good luck! Look forward to reading about it.
ReplyDeleteGood point well made Best and Beyond - or at least I think so, but then I do work for Butlins :-)!
ReplyDeleteAlex Polizzi (of Hotel Inspector fame) stayed in the Wave Hotel at Bognor Regis and wrote about it in The Telegraph. Here's a link to it:

Hope you have a fab time Family Crumbs! Jx
I am VERY jealous! Feb half term is a killer, and if I could go somewhere which would entertain the kids I'd be really happy!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your verdict! Thanks for lovely mention x
