I have spent more time than I care to admit to, poring over the Lakeland catalogue. We used to get it delivered to work, and I'd go through it thoroughly, in the name of research. Now I have no such excuse, but that doesn't stop me dreaming about egg poaching pods or speciality silicone chocolate moulds. I have little doubt my quality of life would be hugely improved if I bought a dry-soon-three-tiered-towel-airer. But despite these lustings, I've never actually bought anything from there.
This will all change. Last night I went out with some local friends - the Peabody mummy branch - and was given a birthday present. Not just a glorious bunch of autumnal flowers filled with berries and seed pods (left). But £60 of Lakeland vouchers. That's SIXTY ENGLISH POUNDS! Such generosity! I was and still am beside myself with excitement! That's 17 egg poachers! 20 chocolate moulds! So, what should I buy? Have you got anything from Lakeland that you'd recommend? Have you ever been to the shop? Is it worth going there rather than buying online? I'm a Lakeland virgin and I don't want to get it wrong. All advice appreciated!

My mum is on first name terms with her Lakeland delivery lady. Definitely brochure, that's half the fun. Shop with tea in one hand, biscuit in other and brochure on lap. Do share purchase news.
ReplyDeleteThere's a delivery lady? Brilliant! I'm really looking forward to this!
DeleteEverytime I go to Lakeland it is guaranteed I never leave without a purchase. I have brought so much for the kitchen and the cleaning gadgets are amazing. I have always used everything that I have brought and they are not left at the back of the cupboard like so many other things.
ReplyDeleteEvery product has a lifetime guarantee and if your not pleased with the product they will refund, so that can't be bad.
Have fun with your purchases will look forward to hearing what you have.
PS take your husband with you I'm sure he will share it on the radio, never miss his show.
That's a ringing endorsement! Sounds like I can't go wrong!
DeleteWait til they have a sale on their website, some of their things are quite expensive and you can get some good discounts. I've got all sorts of things from Lakeland - there's a shop in my parents' home town but it's quite small, and I get the catalogue in the post so often go online. They are great for equipment like potato ricers and also things like silicon chocolate moulds. Just don't get carried away by all the daft things you don't really need - like an egg slicer (how hard is it to use a knife?!)
ReplyDeleteGood advice! I can imagine that if I went to the shop I'd get totally carried away and end up with lots of ridiculous things!
DeleteI bloody love Lakeland Claire! I wrote a poem about it - yes, I did! In my defence I had a lot of work to do so I did what any procrastinator does, I ignored it! Should you wish to read it, it's here: http://www.viewfromthetable.co.uk/2012/08/my-ode-to-lakeland.html
ReplyDeleteI won't be offended if you don't though! :)
I read it and I laughed. It's brilliant. Your talents are wasted (not sure what it is you do, but can't imagine writing odes is part of your job description!)
DeleteHa ha ha, I'm a professional poet (NOT!) I do write stuff for a living but sadly not odes - I would never procrastinate if my job was writing odes! Enjoy your gift, you'll have fun spending it :)
Delete£60?? 60? You lucky beggar! I got some fab cardboard cake stands for use at my birthday, but you'll probably be wanting something more durable (although they stood the birthday party test pretty well). I got some great tray bake tins and they sell really brilliant baking paper.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued to know who your husband is now too, as well as what you buy...
Tray bake tins! That's what I need! My husband, Mr McDonald, is a data software person. Yup. Lucy's husband on the other hand, is marginally more interesting...
Deleteha ha that'll teach me to be nosy ;-) still intrigued by who LUCY's husband is...
DeleteGoogle it!
DeleteMight I recommend an Easiyo yoghurt maker? I was given one by a friend but I know it can be bought at Lakeland. Homemade natural yoghurt - delicious! You can buy loads of scrummy sauces or cheesecake mixes or mousse mixes....the list seems to be endless!
ReplyDeleteHappy shopping!
We have an ice cream maker and we use it loads (well my husband does) so this could be a winner. I'll read up about it. Ta!
DeleteWhat good friends you have. I must admit to buying all my cake bits & pieces in there but have never spent much on one large item. At the rate I am going with my preserving, it would probably be spent on jars, bottles and a preserving pan. Too much choice!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think I need to go in person to have a good browse of cake things. I'm afraid my preserving days are ahead of me (I think, either that or I will never get round to it!) so preserving pan will have to wait!
DeleteI am a Lakeland addict. It's amaaaazing. My top item from there is a 3-tiered cake cooling rack - use it all the time, really good if cooking two (or three!) batches of cupcakes for a birthday or something. They also do a lovely big maslin pan, which I bought in a fit of 'I will make everyone Christmas chutney!' excitement and must admit haven't yet used... Silicon bakeware is great too, silicon baking mats also amazing and nice and colourful! And the banana guard! Every home must have one!
ReplyDeleteI have a teflon baking tray, and have been hankering for silicon baking mat, so yup, will add that tomy list. Love silicon bakkeware so may invest in more. But banana guard, really?
DeleteYou have to buy the apple corer peeler! It's amazing - not only does it peel, core and chop your apples you can also use it on potatoes and make curly fries! Kids (and teenagers) love using it and eating curly apples.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.lakeland.co.uk/13181/Apple-Master
Right, that's a definite. Curly apples? You can't go wrong.
DeleteThe best gift is made by yourself... with care and love :)
ReplyDeleteI'd go for the 90m tinfoil personally. So heavy it also doubles as a weapon. I love Lakeland too. They have such great customer service. I bought two things there last month, that I decided I didn't want. Phoned them and they refunded the oven gloves and silicon oven mat and told me to keep them and donate them to my favourite charity shop. How brilliant.
ReplyDeleteSilicon oven mat? Why didn't you want it? I reckon it would be great, I really want one.
DeleteI seem to remember you called the catalogue Food Porn at work...thoroughly recommend the iron cleaner to stop getting horrible marks on your lovely clean shirts, and my sis in law swears by the banana bag, stops them going brown apparently. I covet a heated airer for those in between days when the central heating isn't on but there's not enough sun and the same damp washing is in the kitchen for days.
ReplyDeleteI have several friends who swear by the heated airer, life-changing is how they put it! Iron cleaner would be great if I ever ironed...
DeleteMy daughter and I are addicted to their products and shops. Well worth going in person – you can spend £60 soooo easily. From my perspective:
ReplyDeleteTheir ‘soup n serve’ bags are a must.
All their bakeware is fab.
Lakeland Wineaway is a miracle product that removes red wine from anything (clothes and carpets) and also has been known to remove lily pollen from a white carpet after repeated applications. It is natural and smells of oranges. I use it on any stain where everything else fails. I could go on........ Just visit!

What a fab present,I think you would enjoy a trip to the store, as you can not believe how you have lived without all those handy gadgets, you will need a new house/kitchen to store them in! I certainly recommend the egg pod poachers, but unlike me do read the instructions,
ReplyDeleteI did just before they were going in the bin, put a lid on the saucepan!
Enjoy xxx
Hi, I have shopped at Lakeland since I was a young Mum (now a granny ,74) both in store and online. Both have advantages but in the shop
ReplyDeleteyou can tell at once if he object of your desire is really what you thought it was in the catalogue.
caveat : look online at the reviews before buying, they are honest and can save some disappointments.
happy shopping
Mary x
ps am going there myself next weekend
I totally the green poach pods.
ReplyDeleteThey really are such a boon - and for me give perfect results without fail, every time.
Rather envious of your Lakeland tokens.
What lovely friends - and enjoy spending the tokens.
(Something else, rather small, but hugely useful, are little packets of "things" which make replacement hooks for tea towels/ordinary towels which either don't have them or which have broken.)
x
Stephen.
The ceramic knives! We've just got a small one and it's great. And they have black blades, which make me feel a bit like a kitchen ninja.
ReplyDeleteI also bought their own brand electric yoghurt maker recently and it's ace. Thick creamy yoghurt overnight.
I also fell for their 3 for 2 on Star Kay White flavourings. I now have a bottle of chocolate extract, a bottle of lemon extract and a bottle of ginger extract in my cupboard and not a clue what to do with any of them. Although I do have a notion to try and emulate Rachel's ginger yogurt, using the ceramic knife (to chop the crystallized ginger) and the yogurt maker.
Anything to be a kitchen ninja! If it's rainy like this tomorrow, I'm off to the Lakeland shop.
