Claire mentioned in her last blackberry-brandy blog that we hadn’t posted much this summer. That is true, but we
wouldn’t want you to think we have been lying in a hammock guzzling home-made
spirits, instead of bringing you tasty new recipes.
No, we’ve been as busy cooking as ever and
we have our own YouTube channel to prove it.
Really we do. Look here.
YouTube is great for recipes. In short little videos you can see exactly what you're making is supposed to look like. Simple step-by-step recipes can be paused by the viewer, so it's possible to cook along, while you watch. And it's completely interactive. So on our channel you can tell us what recipes you like and don't like and why your version is better. You can comment after each video and even post your own video response! It's fun!
But a word of warning, please don't expect this to be perfect. It absolutely isn't! It's filmed in my kitchen amid the debris of family life. When things go wrong we show you. For example, I was lightly perspiring on camera after my showpiece castle birthday cake literally collapsed on air. But the beauty of working with your big sister, is that when something goes wrong I just blame her.
Thankfully most dishes have been a YouTube success - particularly our coconut macaroons and chocolate banana bread. We have had some great feedback from all over the world, although there has been the odd comment which we're still scratching our heads about.
It has been a huge learning curve. Cooking in front of a six-strong camera and sound crew was initially nerve-wracking. Especially as the production company we are working with, All3Media, are behind Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal's programmes.
Although four-letter words have been kept to a minimum and snail porridge is not on the menu, we love cooking together. We've also sussed out which camera angles are the most flattering. FYI high ones are, low ones = double/treble/quadruple chins.
It has made us more conscious about what home cooks want, so we promise more cheats, tricks and time-saving tips than ever. We will still be blogging, but would love you to pop on over to YouTube too. We promise it’ll be fun.
