Review: Creme, Windsor

Going for a day trip to Windsor? Or heading off to Berkshire for some hols? If so, take this advice from lovely blogger Gourmet Mum, and head over to family friendly Crème.
Crème is a friendly, family-run bistro / coffee shop  in the heart of Windsor. From the outside it looks quite cool and trendy, but it’s actually very family orientated, unlike so many family friendly places! It's got a great kids' menu, nappy changing facilities, buggy space and helpful child-friendly staff. It’s the perfect stop for lunch if you’re having a day of sightseeing around Windsor or visiting Windsor Castle.
The menu is superb with a wide range of meals to choose from, made with seasonal ingredients. It’s also great value for money, and, the portions are generous, unlike many places in touristy Windsor. They serve fabulous breakfasts (from £3), including pancakes, croissants, fruit salad with yoghurt & honey, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs as well as full English, from 9am – 12am. The baguettes and sandwiches (from £8) served with ‘Crème’ chips are very good.
I recommend the ‘Most Loved’ chicken & bacon club sandwich – huge and tasty. The gourmet burgers (from £10.50), served with ‘Crème’ chips, tomato & sweetcorn relish, are also completely delicious. There’s also a wide range of other ‘main’ dishes (from £10) which are not only delicious but a little bit different, such as Grilled chicken breast with chorizo crushed potatoes, baby spinach & tomato salsa. My favourite is the Ocean Plank (£14) – mini fish & chips, salt & pepper squid, mackerel pate, fishcake and prawn cocktail beautifully presented on a rustic wooden plank. Heaven. If you have space for pud (from £4.50) you will not be disappointed with the Chocolate & salted caramel torte, or Crème brulee cookies. There’s also a good selection of wines, soft drinks and coffee.
The kids menu includes some childrens favourites such as fish and chips, sausage and mash, chicken skewers and omelettes for about £5. The kids food is also great quality and nicely presented.
We love Crème and keep going back because we always have a great experience with both the food and the service. The fact that it’s a family business (two brothers own and run it) shows in the way they really care about their customers and the food. I like the fact I can order something I like to eat while my kids get their favourite fish and chips – everyone’s a winner!
To find Crème: 83 Peascod Street, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 1DH. Junction 6 off the M4.

  1. Sounds brilliant and could even tempt me into Windsor town centre, off the well worn Legoland track!
